AUGUSTA, Ga. — The pain that Tiger Woods endures during any round of golf is a storyline fans will hear about as long as he continues playing. If you saw the video of him laboring all week in the conditions at Augusta, you weren't surprised to see his final-round WD.

Well, another storyline emerged on Sunday at Augusta, even though Woods didn't play at all. One of his buddies, Jason Day, revealed a juicy detail when talking to the media after his final round.

"I was talking to him at the end of last year," Day said Sunday, "and then he was saying the reason why he pulled out of the PGA was a screw went through the skin on Saturday."

Day didn't give any other details than that. Tiger, of course, cited plantar fasciitis as the reason for his WD this week. That's also what he said caused the WD from his Hero World Challenge in the winter.

Woods was lauded for making the cut at Southern Hills, just as he was this week, walking an extremely undulating golf course to secure a weekend tee time. At the time, Tiger's agent Mark Steinberg cited pain and discomfort in his right foot as the reason for his WD at the 2022 PGA Championship.

All we know for sure is these details sound incredibly gruesome. Hopefully, Tiger didn't have that sort of event again this week in Augusta. We’ll see if he ends up teeing it up at next month's PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., which could be chilly that time of year, too.
