If you think Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (2013) was an impactful movie, then you and actor Michael Shannon have something in common. In one of his recent interviews, the actor explained that Man of Steel‘s story was "culturally significant."

The actor also praised Zack Snyder and highlighted that the story was quite unique. Apart from being a box office hit, Man of Steel also served as the starting point for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and also had a huge impact on the way superhero movies were made. The movie may have received a lot of criticism from the audience but there were several positive things about the movie.

Actor Michael Shannon, who played General Zod in Man of Steel (2013), explained in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that the movie's story was "culturally significant." The actor said,

"I would argue that Man of Steel is this significant story, like, culturally, not just an entertainment thing because at the end of the day, what it was about, it was about a civilization, right? That ruins their own planet. I’ve never heard of that before and then decides, well the solution to that is to go to another planet and take it and then we’ll just go live there and I thought, Yeah, yeah, this story's important."

Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was the first movie in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The director's approach to the character was slightly experimental and that's why not a lot of people were satisfied with it.

It's very normal for fans to have different opinions, in this case, the majority of them agreed with what Shannon had to say about Man of Steel.

Every line of dialogue from Zod is quoteworthy

Why I liked this version of Zod best. He wasn't just a mustache twirling evil villain. You understood his actions. Albeit misguided. He just wanted to preserve his race. He was literally wired to

Many fans pointed out that the concept introduced by Snyder was fantastic, however, the execution is where the movie withered. Without a doubt, Shannon collectively spoke for a lot of fans when he praised the movie.

Further in the interview, Shannon explained that he liked Snyder's version of Zod and concluded by saying that he likes Zack Snyder a lot,

"It was a totally different take on Zod. Terence Stamp was just mean, he was just being mean to everybody and Zod was like, Look, my job is to protect my civilization." he added, "Like, I thought that was, like, beautiful and heartbreaking but I also just like Zack so much. I really, really like Zack Snyder a lot."

Many see Man of Steel as a failure, however, the movie revitalized the Superman franchise, garnered commercial success, and acted as a starting point for the expansion of the DC Extended Universe.
