Yakima River Basin irrigators facing cutbacks

The Bureau of Reclamation on June 5 told irrigators with the junior water-rights in the Yakima River basin to expect 77% of full water allotments.
Yakima River Basin irrigators in south-central Washington will get 77% of their normal water allotments over the next four months, the Bureau of Reclamation predicted Monday.
The water shortage has been caused by low rainfall since Oct. 1 and a warm May that melted snow rapidly. Some snow melted into the bureau's reservoirs, but more ran into streams and was lost for summer irrigation.
